Green Eggs & Ham, the Sequel

*Read at your own risk; I am no poet!

Mom:
I am Mom. Mom I am.
You may have read Green Eggs & Ham
About a man who insists that a food is no good,
But Sam pushes him hard, saying, “Eat it, you should!”
Like him, you may love a new thing if you try it.
But I’ll tell you of a baby with a very picky diet.

Bennett:
That Mom I am, that Mom I am,
Boy, I love milk from Mom I am.
As many times as the bottle you try,
I’d rather starve or even die.
I do not like it here or there.
I do not like it anywhere.

Mom:
I know wherein the answer lies.
You will like it if Dad tries.
Then we will try all different brands.
One of these bottles must meet your demands.
Will you take it from a cup or spoon?
We need to find a solution soon!

Bennett:
It doesn’t matter which kind you use,
No bottle will do; I’ll just refuse.
Cow’s milk formula gives me a rash
And the soy milk kind tastes like trash.
I will not take it from a spoon.
I will not drink it from a cup.
I won’t drink milk,
so just give up!

Mom:
Ok, son, we’ll claim defeat.
But maybe real food you will eat.
How about cereal made of rice?
Any way we mix it, it tastes real nice.
How about carrots, squash, or potatoes?
But baby boy’s head to the side he throws.
Next I’ll try some food that’s sweet.
Mashed apples will surely be a treat.
This is the answer, you will see,
We may finally have a victory.

Bennett:
I would not, could not eat that food.
Rice, veggies, and fruits are just no good.
Not thick or thin, not warm or cold,
I won’t eat them if you sing, plead, or scold.
I do not like them here or there.
I do not like them anywhere.
I do not like them from a cup.
I do not like them from a spoon.
I do not like anything but you, Mom . . .

. . . and that’s not changing any time soon.
